How this site handles data

Privacy policy

No accounts and no forms — but this site does run analytics (Google Analytics 4 and a separate first-party visit tracker) and show ads, all described plainly below.

The short version

This page covers filefloridasalestax.com, an independent reference for Florida sales and use tax. It is a plain static website: no accounts, no login, no newsletter, no comments and no shopping cart. The only way to reach this site directly is the plain mailto: link on the Contact page, which opens your own email program — there is no contact form on this site, and nothing sent that way is collected, stored or processed by this site itself; it goes straight to an email inbox outside this website. Three things happen automatically in the background — Google Analytics 4, a separate first-party visit tracker, and ads served by Google AdSense — all described below.

What we do not collect

  • We do not ask for or store your name, email address, postal address or telephone number.
  • We do not ask for or store any tax identification number, business details or financial information.
  • We do not sell, rent or share the analytics information described below with advertisers or any other third party.

Calculators

The discretionary sales surtax calculator on the rates page runs entirely in your own browser using JavaScript.

The numbers you type are never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and they are not stored. Close or reload the page and they are gone. They are not sent to Google Analytics either.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-3NSPVP3B3K) to count page views and see which pages people actually read. When a page loads, the Google tag sends Google a record of the page viewed, the referring page, your device and browser type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.

We use it only to see aggregate traffic. We do not use it to identify individuals, we have not enabled Google Signals, advertising features or remarketing, and the account's data-sharing setting for “Google products and services” is switched off, so this data is not shared with Google for advertising personalisation.

Google's handling of the data it receives is governed by its own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

Site visit tracker

Separately from Google Analytics above, this site also runs its own first-party visit tracker. When a page loads, it records the page viewed, the referring page, your device type, browser and operating system, and an approximate screen size. It assigns your browser a random ID, stored in your browser's local storage (not a cookie, but similar in effect), so a repeat visit to this site can be recognized as the same visitor; that ID only works on this site and is not shared with, or readable by, any other website.

It also records certain clicks — on links to other sites, links to the Disclaimer or Privacy pages, and in-page section jumps — and roughly how long a page stays open and visible in your browser tab, so our own traffic reports can show which pages and links actually get used.

For visitors in the United States, an approximate state-level location is looked up using part of your IP address, sent to a third-party lookup service (ipapi.co); your country is determined without any external lookup. Your full IP address is not stored by this site.

This data is kept in our own database, separate from Google Analytics, is not sold, rented or shared with advertisers or any other third party, and is viewed only by us, through a password-protected page. There is currently no fixed schedule for deleting it. There is no consent banner or built-in opt-out for this tracker today — see Cookies, and how to opt out below for how to block it yourself.

Advertising

This site shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technology to serve ads, measure how they perform, and limit how many times you see the same one. Depending on your location and consent choices, some ads may be personalised using information Google has about you from other sites and services; where required by law, a consent banner asks before any personalised-advertising cookie is set.

You can review and adjust the ad settings tied to your Google Account at myadcenter.google.com, or opt out of personalised advertising across participating sites generally at aboutads.info/choices. Opting out does not stop ads from appearing here — it only stops them from being personalised.

Cookies, and how to opt out

The Google Analytics tag sets two first-party cookies in your browser, _ga and _ga_<id>, which distinguish one visitor from another for counting purposes. Google AdSense separately sets its own cookies to serve and measure ads, described in Advertising above. This site's own visit tracker (see Site visit tracker above) does not set a cookie, but stores a similar random ID in your browser's local storage for the same purpose. Beyond these, this site sets no cookies of its own — there is no login or session cookie, because there are no accounts.

You can opt out completely by installing Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on, by blocking googletagmanager.com in a content blocker, or by using your browser's Do Not Track or tracking-protection settings. You can clear the visit tracker's ID at any time via your browser's site-data settings, or prevent it entirely by blocking tribeca_rep--25c3e054ae2711f1936e1607ee4eb77e.web.val.run. Nothing on this site depends on analytics — every page, table and calculator works identically with any of this blocked.

Web fonts

The typefaces used here (Libre Franklin and Inter) are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers to fetch the font files. Google's handling of those requests is governed by its own privacy policy.

Server logs

This site is hosted on a third-party hosting platform. Like virtually all web hosts, that platform records standard technical request data — IP address, timestamp, the page requested, the referring page and the browser user-agent string — for security, abuse prevention and operational purposes. We do not use those logs to identify individuals. Handling of that data is governed by the hosting provider's own privacy policy.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new review date.
